My god, it’s full of plugins…
Wow. It’s done, and it really wasn’t that painful after all. Wordpress is now running my blog.
After having using Moveable Type for about a year, I’m happy to see it go. There were so many things I wanted to do with the site for ages, but didn’t want to struggle with Moveable Type. I vaguely recall how much trouble it was to get a look and feel I liked, and just haven’t gone there since.
Wordpress, on the other hand, installed in 10 minutes (well, aside from a little trouble finding MySQL’s socks) and let me get right down to work customizing. Not that it has proven terribly necessary — there are more Wordpress themes out there than I can shake a stick at. After downloading and fiddling with about twenty I seem to have settled on this Blue Zinfandel style. At least long enough to start tinkering with it. I should stop now, and put time into writing rather than tinkering.
But before I do, a few other things I like about Wordpress: Plugins. There are quite a few of them (you can see which ones I’m using on my about page). They’re good, they’re easy to install, and easy to customize. That might be because the Wordpress administration site is well thought out and extensible — whatever the case, it’s good to have control of my site back.
I’ll start writing again as soon as I get that flickr plugin working…
