Ten things I’m looking forward to in 2007

Just your typical wish list for the coming year, in no particular order. (Once again, my resolution list isn’t that interesting: Achieve two more ranks in Karate, which would bring me to 5th Kyu, and spend as much time at the dojo as possible).

  1. The impeachment of George Bush (yep, still hoping).
  2. A few democratic candidates that are worth their salt. Especially now.
  3. An end to disinformation engines such as pathetic Fox “news” stories that keep trying to justify what we’ve done to Iraq (and a general awareness that every excuse put forward for the war has been a lie).
  4. Mac OS/X 10.5 “Leopard” and seeing all those nasty little issues I have with Mail, iCal and whatnot getting fixed.
  5. Finishing my book, Navigating The Methodology Maze!
  6. Getting out of Iraq without leaving too much of a bad taste in the rest of the world’s mouth over the mess we’ve created. (I know, that’s going to be tough).
  7. The beginning of a tremendous up-swell in awareness of how bad our education system is becoming, and a movement to do something about it.
  8. Returning to India and teaching a few courses on methodology.
  9. Watching the big Telcos embrace new and better options, driven by competition from lousy VOIP providers (e.g.: email and internet integration, simul-ring with cell phones and the like).
  10. Our economy surviving and interest rates not going out of control.

So, what did I get from last year’s list? Well, Santa brought me a few things I was hoping for:

  1. Really fabulous Intel-based Mac hardware that’s even sexier than their predecessors (including a dual-core Powerbook successor).
  2. Figuring out how to really put Quicksilver to better use.
  3. I didn’t get VMware on OS/X, but Parallels is just as good.
  4. We ditched Vonage and, thank god, have decent phone service again.
  5. Switching to Verizon for cell coverage worked out pretty well.
  6. Is it premature to think iTunes really took the lead in the video delivery front?
