Map your mind, your project

Novamind MapNovaMind recently released version 3.0.17 of its flagship product, the best mind mapping software on the planet. The 3.0 release added several great new features to version 2. Export to KeyNote, new line formatting, improved zoom controls, great new context sensitive help, support for drawing using a pen and tablet and a new set of floating inspectors are only some of the improvements. The new release is also available for Microsoft Windows.

As before, NovaMind is fantastically integrated with other applications. You can drag images directly from Safari into your mind map, for instance. Exporting to an outline in plain text, rich text or XML makes it easy to get information in and out of your map — and the new Keynote export is great for building presentations (PowerPoint is also supported). Perhaps my favorite feature is its ability to export to Merlin.

Ganttview TnProjectWizards just released Merlin 1.3.9. Merlin is hands-down the best traditional project management application. Much like Microsoft Project, it provides support for the gantt and net-plan management views we’re familiar with. But it goes far beyond these basics, in typically OS/X-style. It’s elegant and easy to use. It’s fully integrated with AddressBook and iCal, you can use your project plans to manage resources and schedules. Merlin also supports a rich expansion on the concept of tasks, allowing you to add files, issues, risks and more information to individual project elements. And of course, it is fully compatible with Microsoft Project, both for import and export.
