Cryonauts?
You can’t take it with you. So Arizona resort operator David Pizer has a plan to come back and get it. — Antonia Regalado, W.S.J.
Apparentloy Mr. Pizer has more faith that his frozen, dead corpse will someday be more than meat in a cryo-locker. According to this Wall Street Journal article, he’s breaking new ground by leaving his estate to himself. He’s created legal arrangements for his estate to be managed until he is unfrozen, “someday in the future.” If he’s right, he could awake the richest man in the world. Personally I don’t think it’s going to work — maybe we’ll figure out the technical details of cryogenic storage someday but for now, I’m pretty sure we don’t have enough information.
It strikes me that this is an excellent way to leave a last “screw you” message to your debtors and heirs. With funds tied up in this kind of a rejuvenation trust, they may not be able to touch it. I wonder how many of the 1,000-or-so cryonics movement members enter into these arrangements thinking more of the near-term financial implications than the long-term upside.
