I recently discovered LinkedIn and have found it to be one of the best “degrees of separation” style sites out there. My issue with most web sites that provide similar server is lack of privacy. Many focus more on the “interesting” effects of who is linked to who — LinkedIn, on the other hand, is more of a professional’s tool. Getting connected requires a personal referral, for one thing. Strong privacy controls and a focus on finding job opportunities also make it a valuable service.
