Editing from Mars (of your blog)

MarsEdit is a pretty handy little blog editor, if you don’t want to use your typical web interface. What I like best about it is that I can write blog entries on the road, whether or not I’m connected. MarsEdit will upload and synchronize with my blog later.

Getting it to work with blojsom took a bit of tinkering. The only downside is that it insists on seeing each category as a separate blog. Here’s how I got it to work:

  1. Create a new blog for one of your categories (e.g.: “Entropy”).
  2. Set the home URI (e.g.: “http://weblog.bosslogic.com/weblog/zbeckman”).
  3. Choose “Other MetaWeblog-compatible” as the software type.
  4. Set the RPC URI to “http://weblog.bosslogic.com/weblog/xmlrpc/zbeckman” (note the insertion of “xmlrpc” into the URI).
  5. Set the blog ID to the category name (e.g.: “Entropy”).

With any luck, you’ll find MarsEdit works happily with blojsom.

If you find the category issue a limitation, you might want to try ecto2, which I ended up switching to after originally posting about MarsEdit.
